Minutes – March 19th Meeting

This month’s meeting opened with an introduction to Truckers Against Trafficking, an organization that seeks to raise awareness of human trafficking among truck drivers, who may encounter child prostitution at truck stops. We watched TAT’s awareness-raising video and took DVD copies (provided free by TAT) that we can distribute to truck stops and truck driving schools. If you were not at the meeting and would like a copy of the DVD, contact us or order materials for free from Truckers Against Trafficking.

We then discussed plans for raising awareness about human trafficking at the Mini Marathon, coming up on May 5. Last year a small group of U-ACT members held up signs along the race route and handed out fliers after the race; we received a very positive response. This year we are looking at holding signs again as well as potentially setting up a table in Military Park at the end of the race route. If you are interested in participating, please contact us.

The Free2Walk event is less than one month away! Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 15, and be sure to invite your friends and family to participate in the walk as well. Race day volunteers are needed for set-up, registration, tear-down, etc. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Susan Oliver (susangeeoliver@gmail.com) or Sarah Haas (pastorsarah@friedensucc.org).

The Not For Sale Campaign is looking for a Midwest location to hold a concert later this summer. We have compiled a starting list of potential locations to contact. If you would like to help out by contacting locations (our list is all churches at this point) or if you have a connection to other potential venues, please contact us.

Next month’s meeting will be on Monday, April 16 at Trinity Church in Broad Ripple. We will watch the film “Holly” and hopefully be joined by members of the Trinity congregation, who we have invited to attend. As this meeting will largely be taken up the film, this would be a great month to invite a friend who may be new to the issue of human trafficking.

If you are making Freedom Scarves for Not For Sale, bring your finished scarves to U-ACT meetings. We’ll see you all at Trinity in April!
